The Dream That Just Wont Die
Palm Bay and the talk of a baseball stadium has made the news again. Our Mayor seems obsessed with the idea of building a baseball stadium with the hopes to lure a minor league team to good ole Palm Bay. There have been "secret" talks with an undisclosed team. Nothing solid mind you just talks. It seems all we need to do is build it and they will come. Just like in the movies.
Why are we wasting anymore of the City's time and another cent of tax money pursuing this dream? Its ridiculous. The City should focus its energy and resources on learning how to keep fireworks dry during rainstorms, providing better roads and better drainage and our parks. For many of us that too is just a dream. For those of us who have lived here a while that dream has been a NIGHTMARE. We were told years ago, vote for this tax and all of our troubles with roads will be over. Yes we fixed a whole lot of roads. Then this year you came after our shrinking incomes for more money with promises of Fixed roads and jobs and economic growth that was going to turn Palm Bay into the land of milk and honey. The citizens did not believe it. Many of those roads that got fixed on the first roads bill need to be repaved already. I will admit some of us do not need front end alignments every month anymore, but there are a lot of miles of roads that were never fixed. And we want to build a freaking baseball stadium? Lets get our priorities straight here before we start dreaming about Baseball stadiums.
If residents want to go to a ballgame all they need to do is drive to Viera and watch the manatees or go South to Port St. Lucie and watch the Mets. If you want spring training games with the Major leaguers, again you have Viera and a whole Host of cities within an hour or two drive. If you desire the big leagues you can always head over to Tampa or Miami. Lets maintain our focus on fixing the infrastructure of Palm Bay. Lets quit worrying about dessert before we get to the meal. There are many many issues more important to the citizens of Palm Bay then a baseball stadium. We can discuss them all right here every other day if you would like. Just email me at palmbaysucks@florida.usa.com .
Mr. Mazziotti if you really feel you cannot live without your field of dreams there is a company that claims they can build your field of dreams at no cost to the Taxpayer. Its called Big League Dreams http://www.bigleaguedreams.com/ These guys say they can do it. Here are their claims: Brings additional recreational sports facilities to your community, Local youth and adults served first, No city maintenance or operations costs, No taxpayer expense, Revenue generated for the city, Positive local economic impact, Large market visibility. Sounds like an option to me.
I still say build a race track if you want to draw the crowds and provide some weekend entertainment. A speedway/drag strip would fit in with the Palm Bay life style and the City would not have to pay a dime for the construction. Many people still have fond memories of the old Melbourne Speedway. Guarantee it will bring in more $ dough $ then the Majors Golf Course. Then you can stand in front of the gate and get your picture taken.
Baseball just isn't selling these days. Viera is a loser money wise Brevard County residents pick up the tab.The Nationals played to some empty seats during spring. And it is real easy to get into a manatee game. The Stadium in Miami where the Marlins play to thousands of empty seats every home game is also a loser and that's a big city with a real major league team. Lets focus on what really matters to the residents of Palm Bay not your silly dreams.

ReplyDeleteWhy are they still wasting our time with this? It is not a good idea. Believe it or not the race track idea is great I do not know if you were kidding or not but it would be a winner. The only problem is where could it be built where the noise will not be a complaint
