A Night When Palm Bay Did Not Suck

The Holiday parade was a success. The day started out with rain rain rain and it continued all day. Then late afternoon a few hours before parade time it cleared up and it turned into a nice crisp clear night. People started picking their viewing spots early and setting up chairs. The parade started a bit later then its scheduled 6 pm start time but once it got going the fun began. Before the start the police blocked off the Eastbound lanes of Malabar and BaySide had some carolers singing away in front of the judging stand.

Everyone was happy once things got going. The colors were presented at the lead of the parade.

Local businesses and clubs built some really nice floats this year. We had cheerleaders, boy scouts, cub scouts, girl scouts, ball teams, churchs and of course the Marching bands.

Once the parade was over and the crowds started leaving. The evidence of that Palm bay sucks was everywhere. Dispite the fact that the City had trash cans placed up and down Mqlabar Road Trash was strewn everywhere.

It looked like Washington DC after Obamas inauguration. Cant people walk ten yards to the nearest barrel?. And like I predicted there were no Ramadan floats and there were no jewish entries and everyone shouted Merry christmas and not Happy Holidays. Over all I would have to rate this years Christmas parade a success.

Tis The Season

We are now in the Holiday Season. Thanksgiving is behind us and Christmas is just a few weeks away. The Big Palm Bay 2009 Holiday Light Parade "50 Years of Holidays in Palm Bay" is this Saturday Dec 5 at 6pm. The parade begins north on San Filippo Drive, then turns west onto Malabar Road. The parade ends by turning south onto Eldron Boulevard. The judges' viewing stand will be located at the Colonial Square Shopping Center. The parade steps off promptly at 6pm, so be sure to find a viewing spot early!

Remember the good old days? You know the days when you could call the Christmas parade, "the Christmas Parade". Now so that we do not offend Muslims, atheists, Jews, people celebrating Kwanza or anyone else we must refer to the Christmas parade as the holiday parade. By calling it the holiday parade everyone can celebrate happily and the ACLU or any other liberal organization cant bitch about Christians celebrating the birth of Jesus. We are safe from the law suits.
In reality haven't we already made Christmas a non christian holiday anyway. It has become a huge commercialized celebration where Santa Clause is now the main focus and not Jesus. But it is still Christmas.
During this weekends parade I doubt if the Muslims signed up to build and enter any Ramadan Floats, I doubt we will see too many Jews with Hanukkah or Chanukah floats and Menorahs will not be lining the streets of Palm Bay. I doubt that the Kwanza float will be blasting the rap and bringing up the rear. What you will most likely see are Christmas Floats and Christmas displays with endless twinkling lights, We will see reindeer, angels, elves, snowman, Christmas trees and Santa Claus. The bands will be playing Christmas carols and Christmas songs not Ramadan or Kwanza music. So why don't we call it the Christmas Parade and stop this political correctness bull shit.
Americans seem so afraid of offending some little hyphenated group of people that we are willing to give up with out a fight the customs of our culture.
It's a damn shame that the ACLU or some other liberal group is just waiting to slap a law suit on any town that dares to display a Nativity scene during the Christmas Season.

Some places of business are so worried about offending someone that they instruct their employees to say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas.
Do you remember the High School graduation ceremony that was to take place in a local church that graciously allowed the school to use for the event. An indoor venue dry and cool. A couple of people out of several hundred complained because there was a cross in the church. Can you believe that a cross. This complaint caused the school board to buckle under the pressure and the event had to be moved outside and away from that nasty church with the cross. Just because a couple of people were offended.
Why are we so quick to pacify every small whining group. Why are we throwing away our customs and changing our culture to pacify a few. Not Me! Merry Christmas!

Fix The Freaking Roads

Lets discuss the number one problem that concerns Palm Bay tax payers. Its not the home break ins or the crime rates, Its not the new money sucking red light cameras or even our rapidly declining property values. The number one problem of concern is the same damn problem plaguing this city since I took up residence here twenty five years ago.. ROADS!
Politician after politician has been elected to office in Palm Bay on the promise of fixing the roads. Since the GDC days it has been roads. You newer residents have no idea of how bad it used to be. Let me tell you it was a whole hell of a lot worse way back then . I know you plunked down your hard earned money to buy a house here and live the dream and you have seen that dream lose half it's value or more and still you have to drive on shitty roads that will destroy your car. I feel your pain we were there and believe me it was a whole lot worse.
The City is to blame with the continued growth with no real plan just greedy fingers wanting a piece of the tax pie. The roads did get better for a while only because the tax payers of Palm Bay who at that time probably numbered half of what the population is today voted ourselves a huge tax increase. We bit the bullet and paid the highest millage rate in the County. We did get our roads fixed but we paid for it. It was a fair deal and not everything that was promised was paved but a whole lot of roads were paved.
The blame for today's problems falls directly at the feet of our current mayor Mazziotti and the city leaders such as our sub par City Manager Feldman. This has been the result of poor managing and just plain and simple shitty planning. During the past decade or so of boom times here in Palm Bay, houses were popping up like mushrooms all over the city from one corner to the other. There was no road plan what so ever to fix the roads. I guess at the rate things were going our wonderful city government figured every house in Palm Bay was going to be worth a million dollars and tax money was going to keep pouring in. The City had no problems pouring tax dollars into the Bayside area. All roads leading into BaySide were spruced up and paved by the city in order to attract even more growth to the Bayside area and to attract golfers to the failing Majors "world class" golf course. The tax payers will eventually be financially responsible for all 18 holes.
The Mayor Mr. Mazziotti has been involved in Palm Bay City Government in one position or another for about 20 + years so you can say this has been on his watch.
There was a time when Mr. Mazziotti had the City's best interest at heart, But as what happens to so many who chose government as their career he has changed and lost his way. I watch him up there at the meetings now and the there is barely a spark left in him. I think he is just hanging in there to finagle some kind of pension.
Our City leaders keep trying to grow the City by annexing more land . They can not even manage or provide the basic services the residents deserve. They have failed in a big way to maintain or even improve what we already have while always dreaming big dreams of baseball stadiums and Emerald cities paying thousands for this study or that study. Its been over twenty years and that belt way is still just a dream.
Their plan to fix our roads was thrust upon us this year in the form of a huge tax increase. A vote on a referendum on roads with an economic growth plan thrown in for good measure that was going to create jobs. The City leaders plastered the town with signs especially in the areas where the roads were the worse. They tried to tell us if we did not vote for this plan Palm Bay would just about cease to exist. They tried to ram it through like the President rammed his failed stimulus package through trying to scare everyone. Our referendum failed on that election day as it should have because it smelled really bad it was full of bullshit. There was no value for OUR money. It contained an irresponsible bond issue that was a bad deal for the taxpayers and there was also the fairy tale claims about all of the jobs that were to be created. Bullshit!
What is needed is a Road plan which is fair and responsible and concern only roads. None of this economic crap. Just Roads and it should be for a set period of time and again only roads . No pretty median strips with nice landscaping and sprinkler systems JUST ROADS!Built by contractors that bid competitively and by our own public works crews. Now if you came to us with something fair and straight forward with out all of the other bullshit tacked on and it gave us value for our dollars it might be able to pass.
Our City Government seems incapable of making something like this happen. I doubt very seriously if any of them from the Mayor on down have a clue No one seems to get it except maybe for council woman Isnardi she seems to be the only one. That does not give us much hope. Maybe its time to clean house and throw the bums out City Manager Feldman needs to be shown the door with out some golden parachute hanging out of his back pocket.
Get a plan together. If it is fair and gives us the value for our money and will improve our quality of life by fixing our roads and only the roads the taxpayers just might be a bit more willing to fork over their hard earned cash into the Palm Bay money pit. We all know our roads suck and we are sick of it.

Open Your Wallets Palm Bay Taxpayers . Its Puerto Rican Parade Time

That's right folks it is That time of year again and before you know it the 13Th annual Puerto Rican Day parade will be upon us. The traffic will be backed up on Malabar Road and Peurto Rican Flags will be everywhere. Before I start my rant let me just say yes I know Puerto Rico is a common wealth of the United States which basically gives them all the benefits of America with out having to pay the taxes.
What pisses me off however is the fact that Sam Lopez and the third bridge Organization have to play the race card and threaten the City by filing lawsuits claiming racism if the taxpayers of Palm Bay do not foot the bill. The Puerto Ricans want the police, fire, medical, bleachers location porta potties and the city to clean up the mess they always leave behind. We have Haitian festivals Jamaican festivals.... everybody wants to celebrate their heritage and everyone wants the tax payers to pay their tab for their little celebration.

Until you people quit referring to your selves as hyphenated Americans we wont have equality.
What would Sam Lopez and the third bridge organization think if some of us demanded a White People festival or a Caucasian Americans of European decent parade and festival.
With a big parade and party celebrating how damn great it is to be white and American. Not only would Sam and his friends be pissed but every hyphenated American group or Culture other then Whites would be throwing a hissy fit. I bet Sharpton and Jessie Jackson would fly their black asses down here to Palm Bay just to stir the shit.
Its OK to have Miss Black or Miss Latino contests but holy shit see what happens if someone decides to throw a miss Caucasian American contest. How about a White TV network or a white anything? All we would hear is Racist Racist Racist!. Its OK to have a movie called White Man Cant Jump. Try releasing Black Man Cant Swim and see what happens. There is a double standard in this country and the White people are getting tired of it. If you do not agree with the president you are a racist. No I am not racist I just do not support a marxist socialist nor his administration. If you are a republican you are a racist. Some one needs to teach history as in the facts it was the southern democrats who fought tooth and nail against Civil Rights. Minorities keep voting for Democrats and they keep getting nothing but promises generation after generation.
Back to the Ricans.Palm Bay tax payers simply can not afford to foot the bill for the Peurto Ricans to have their celebration this year. Times are tough there is no hope and change flowing through Palm Bay. Just foreclosed homes and crappy streets, waterlogged fireworks and red light cameras. The city has squeezed every penny they legally can from us and they would get more if they could. The City fathers are so desperate they let Zonka and Feldman go to China to see if they could learn something after the City was all anti China just a couple of years ago. Guess we showed them.. I am sure if the Puerto Ricans put some effort into it,they can find the funding by raising the cash themselves and finding their own sponsors. Third Bridge has got all kinds of connections and hustles companies all the time with the Race Card. Try a few car washes or something. How about a bake sale. Sell a bunch of the little flags you hang on the rear view mirrors, they seem popular. There is just not enough money this year despite all of your lawsuits and threats. Of course the city will bend over and give them what they want and take the money from somewhere else. Like maybe sign removal or pothole repair.
Its a shame you Puerto Ricans cant celebrate America. I have yet to see any American flags flying at your parade. Just from the pick up trucks driving by flying the stars and stripes. After all, this is where you have chosen to live. It must be better here on the main land because you are here instead of over there the land that you love. The same goes for the Jamaicans the Haitians and everyone else you are living in America. I do not know how you got here whether it was through the front door or you snuck in through the back, But generations from the past were damn glad to get here and they learned to assimilate into the USA becoming part of the culture and they learned to speak ENGLISH! that is what we speak here in the country you chose to live in.
The United States used to be a melting pot where people came and were grateful to be here "melted" into and became part of the USA. Now it seems we are a boiling Cauldron where people come here legally and illegally and expect the citizens and taxpayers to cater to their needs and have drivers license tests in 12 different languages, or have teachers in the public schools teach their children in Spanish yes this is not bull shit. They also want to have everyone answer their phone in different languages to accommodate them or they will slap a lawsuit on your ass and call The United States of America a racist country.
Happy Puerto Rican Day!
